Italy’s new and strongly anti-gambling coalition government has wasted no time in presenting its proposals for a comprehensive ban on gambling advertising to the Italian parliament, with an implementation date of January 1 2019.
The decree covers all forms of gambling advertising, including “…sporting, cultural or artistic events, television or radio broadcasts, daily and periodical press, general publications, billboards and internet.”
However, there is a carve out for national lottery activity, which will be exempt from the ban, and a concession through which existing and in progress advertising contracts current on the implementation date will be allowed to continue.
