Japanese online gambling operator busted

Japanese police officers in the Ueno district of Tokyo were active this week in shuttering Ocean Club, an allegedly illegal online gambling access point which apparently raked in 36 million yen (around US $365,000)  in just six months of operations.

Two employees and two customers were arrested in a police raid on the premises, a Tokyo Metropolitan Police spokesman revealed.

The spokesman said that the enterprise offered online casino games via an offshore website, selling credits to punters with which they could gamble, and which could later be exchanged for cash.

Ocean Club manager Takashi Higa was among those arrested and told a local television station that it was an easy way to earn a living.
