Kansspelautoriteit requests cooperation from regulatory counterparts

The Dutch Gaming Authority, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), has called on its regulatory counterparts to assist in its fight against online gambling providers who target Dutch consumers.

The KSA, in a letter to fellow supervisory authorities, clarified its position on unlicensed operators targeting the market, saying it is authorised to act against those operators regardless of their license status in other jurisdictions.

In the letter, the KSA laid out the criteria it uses to determine if an unauthorised operator is in fact targeting the Dutch market citing the use of Dutch language, symbols or terms, a website with an extension .nl, use of Dutch-language advertising and / or the use of customary payment methods in The Netherlands.

The KSA further requested its counterparts communicate this criteria to their licensees and inform of the consequences which may include blocking Dutch IP addresses and heavy fines.
