The Kenyan National Assembly bent to its President’s will, with the House Finance Committee approving a 35 percent betting tax across the board Thursday, the last day of the current legislative session.
Earlier in the week, President Uhuru Kenyatta rejected the Kenya 2017 Finance Bill until Parliamentarians revisited the proposed betting tax rate which has been as high as 50 percent and as low as 7.5 percent in previous negotiations (see previous reports).
Kenyatta reportedly made the 35 percent recommendation in a memorandum sent to the speaker of the house.
