Unconfirmed reports Wednesday that Ladbrokes has “quietly” withdrawn its eSports betting markets (Ladbrokes has yet to confirm or deny the reports) triggered industry speculation today on possible reasons for a departure from a potentially rewarding sector which analysts predict could deliver revenues of $23.5 billion by 2020.
The reports first surfaced on the publication eSportsbettingreport.com, which claimed that players contacted the Ladbrokes support centre when they found that eSports markets had been taken down on the company’s sportsbetting website, and were told that the markets had “currently” been dropped for an indefinite period.
No reason for this was available from the support representatives answering the calls.
Ladbrokes has been active in the eSports betting markets for major tournaments on games like CS:GO, Dota 2, LoL and StarCraft.
When we went to press late Thursday afternoon no response had been received from Ladbrokes.
