The political debate in the Czech Republic over hiking tax rates on gambling from the current rate across all genres of 20 percent seems to have evolved a new two-tier concept which would introduce a 23 percent tax rate on sports betting but a 28 percent rate for casino games and lotteries, whether online or land.
Land based operators could also face a doubling of the daily levy based on the number of slot machines in an establishment.
The new proposal differs radically from the flat rate of 25 percent across the industry suggested by the Ministry of Finance .
Local media reports indicate that the government’s plans for a licensing and regulatory regime for online gambling are continuing, with implementation scheduled for 2016.
The new proposal now moves to its second reading in the national parliament, which will probably take place in October
