IGT has acquired certain assets including several patents and other intellectual property from Leap Forward Gaming, Inc. (LFG) specifically related to Leap Forward Gaming’s SaffariNet® Patron Display Interface® (PDI) picture-in-picture multimedia ecosystem technology.
IGT also agreed to dismiss litigation against LFG which readers will recall was filed in the Nevada Courts back in September 2015.
At the time, IGT claimed that LFG was marketing competing devices which copied fundamental aspects of IGT’s intellectual property.
Defendants Saffari, Cobb and Cunningham from LFG each spent many years at IGT assisting in the development of the proprietary technology that tracks player gaming activity.
Saffari, who left IGT in 2009, founded LFG immediately after his departure and recruited Cobb and Cunningham.
IGT claimed that LFG was exploiting the proprietary technical knowledge that the Individual Defendants had developed during their employment at IGT.
“This acquisition builds upon IGT’s industry-leading intellectual property portfolio by enabling us to broaden the scope of our casino management systems solutions,” Victor Duarte, IGT Global Chief Product Officer, Gaming said.
“The acquired system-agnostic assets include applications and technologies that are complementary to IGT’s existing solutions, and may help us to enhance our offerings to customers over time.”
Leap Forward founder and chief executive officer, Ali Saffari, will serve as a consultant to IGT to facilitate a seamless integration of the solutions and applications related to the acquisition.
