The Isle of Man Department of Economic Development plans on amending its Casino Act of 1986 and the Gaming Betting and Lotteries Act of 1988 to allow the hosting of live gaming tournaments on the Island which is situated between Ireland and England in the Irish Sea.
John Shimmin MHK, Minister for Economic Development said: “The Department has identified an opportunity to be able to attract live gaming tournaments to the Island with all of the associated economic benefits they will bring in terms of increased bed nights, spend in the local economy and increased passenger numbers on aircraft serving the Island”.
Live gaming tournaments are presently restricted to select venues, the change in the law would allow the Gambling Supervision Commission to grant temporary licences affording organisers a wider range of possible venues.
The department has kicked off the process with the release of a consultation document.
