If traditional and established German state lottery providers would drop their opposition to its entry into the German market, Lottoland would be prepared to restrict its product offers to international lottery draws and leave its betting turnover on German state lotteries to them…that’s the gist of an offer the German business media report was made by Lottoland boss Nigel Birrell Tuesday.
Birrell acknowledged that his company is keen to get into all 16 German states and is prepared to offer a quid pro quo that could be as high as Euro 100 million, possibly joined by other lottery operators. He revealed that the company has submitted applications in the hope of securing a national operating licence.
That would seem to require the approval of all 16 German states or lande, and judging by past history with online gambling and the chaotic state of German regulatory structures that is not an easy objective to achieve.
Our readers may recall that earlier this week Lottoland claimed a Guinness Book of Records achievement for a Euro 90 million win – the biggest yet online gambling pay-out – to a German female punter who hit the Eurojackpot main prize playing on her mobile on June 1 this year.
