Bill HB475, which looked to create state law exemptions effectively legalising daily fantasy sports in Louisiana, was pulled this week by sponsor Rep. Joseph Lopinto who said: “I didn’t have the votes”.
The bill sailed through the State House but encountered heavy opposition not just in the Senate Judiciary Committee but from the lobbying efforts of the Louisiana Family Forum and the Louisiana Video Gaming Association.
Lopinto doesn’t rule out bringing back similar legislation in 2016 but until then Louisiana remains one of five States where fantasy sports is deemed illegal.
“New elections and terms limits bring new people and new ideas,” Lopinto said.
