Macau’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) has issued a warning in a statement released Friday demanding casino operators and players adhere to a ban on recording devices at gaming tables which was tabled in May 2016.
The statement follows the bust last week of a proxy betting ring conducted via social media network WeChat at a Cotai casino (see previous reports).
“DICJ has demanded of gaming concessionaires and promoters that – besides strictly complying with the casino tableside phone ban measure – they step up inspection efforts regarding the use of telecommunication equipment in other casino areas,” the statement reads.
“Anyone suspected of wrongdoing should be immediately reported to the authorities.”
According to GGRAsia, the DICJ revealed that Macau authorities had issued a total of 71 verbal cautions to casino patrons between May 9, 2016 and April 16, 2017 for the use of mobile devices at gaming tables.
This latest bust is the second of its kind this year alone.
