Reports from Macau indicate that the gambling island’s regulator, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau may be about to implement a ban on phone betting in Macau casinos…perhaps as early as next week.
The source revealed to local media that the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau has the support of the island’s finance department on the decision, and that it has been communicated to Macau licensed operators for compliance.
The reports quote analyst estimates that phone betting could make up around 5 to 10 percent of VIP sector revenue, which traditionally has thin margins, and there will be an impact on EBITDA…in the case of Wynn Macau that could be a hit of around $5 million per quarter.
