The latest numbers from the Macau regulatory authority show a 5.5 percent increase in revenues to 26.1 billion patacas ($3.3 billion) in August 2012 – the second highest ever for Macau casinos, topped only by October 2011’s 26.8 billion patacas..
The increase was higher than July’s statistics, which at 1.5 percent recorded the lowest rise since 2009.
Macau revenues soared 42 percent last year to $33.5 billion, more than five times the amount earned on the beleaguered Las Vegas Strip, but in 2012 Macau’s growth has eased in line with a slowdown in the Chinese economy.
