Land casino revenues soared again in China’s gambling enclave Macau, rising 13.5 percent in May from a year earlier, boosted by an improving Chinese domestic economy and a week of national holidays that spurred visits from wealthy Chinese.
The Reuters news agency reports that official figures show that May revenue was 29.6 billion patacas (US$3.7 billion), the second-strongest figure this year. Analysts had forecast a rise of between 12 and 15 per cent for May.
