As the Chinese Government’s crackdown on corruption continues to have a significant effect on Macau’s gambling industry, which peaked early last year at almost $5 billion but has since fallen to around half, analysts believe the worst may be over as operators realign their strategies to appeal to mass-market gamblers rather than big-money-spending high rollers.
As latest industry stats show a drop of 21.4 percent to 18.7 billion patacas in January 2016, a revenue drop for the 20th consecutive month, operators expect visitor numbers to boost during the upcoming week-long Lunar New Year holiday beginning 8 February 2016.
