Maine governor Paul LePage holds the future of daily fantasy sports in his state in his hands; the state legislature has passed a measure legalising the popular genre and sent it to the governor for signature into law.
Gov. LePage’s position on DFS is not clear, and he could exercise his right to veto, or sign off on the new law.
Introduced by Republican state representative Kathleen Dillingham, the measure contains language declaring that the state of Maine views fantasy sports as games of skill, not chance, in order to comply with federal online gambling law.
Industry observers claim that DFS has over 215,000 active players in the state.
