The Malaysian Home Ministry has proposed amendments to its outdated Communications and Multimedia Act, Lotteries Act 1952, Common Gaming House Act 1953 and Betting Ordinance 1953 in a bid to stem the flow of illegal online gambling in the country.
Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed said during a press briefing Wednesday that authorities face an uphill battle due to constraints in the current law.
“They have proposed amendments to the laws on gambling to allow them to better deal with the problem,” he said in reply to a question by BN-Sipitang.
Proposed amendments will integrate laws on illegal gambling currently under the jurisdiction of several ministries.
