In the latest development in the Malaysian federal police’s fight against illegal online gambling, the specialised CyberSecurity and Multimedia Investigation Division of the Commercial Crimes Investigations Department has been tasked with tracking an unspecified number of online gambling sites offering a wide array of bets.
Over the weekend The Star newspaper quoted Commercial Crimes Investigations Department director Comm Datuk Syed Ismail Syed Azizan, who said police were trying to determine whether these websites were operated locally or were linked to international operators.
“The CyberSecurity and Multimedia Investigation Division has been directed to check the origin of the websites as part of the probe,” he told The Star.
He said other agencies, including the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and Interpol, would be asked to help in investigations.
