Malaysian police in the province of Johor reported Thursday that a series of online gambling raids over the last ten days has resulted in the arrest of 282 individuals and the seizure of 1,010 computer sets, along with other evidence of illegal activity.
The police swoops were carried out as part of Operation Dadu Khas between September 10 and September 20 and involved large numbers of police officers in a total of 54 raids, the head of Johor CID, Senior Asst Comm Azman Ayob revealed.
The police were assisted by Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) in cutting off the electricity supply at the online gambling dens during the raids.
SAC Azman said from January to August, 674 raids have been conducted resulting in the arrests of 4,079 and the seizure of 12,999 online gambling computers. 223 cases had been brought to court, he said.
