Malaysian police arrest five in online casino break-up

In their latest online gambling bust Malaysian police report that following a tip-off they have shuttered an illegal enterprise in Kuala Lumpur that has been in operation for the past year, generating revenues of RM3.3 million (US$796,000) a month from a 20,000-strong player base.

The illegal activity was boosted by a sophisticated SMS promotional operation that targeted “hundreds of thousands” of phones in China and Malaysia.

Financial transactions were channelled through Chinese banks, investigators reported, adding that they are currently searching for the owners of the website the ring used.
