Malaysia State of Sarawak’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched an intensive state-wide campaign to eradicate gambling.
The raids are a result of widespread abuse of family entertainment center licensees, Sarawak CID chief senior asst comm Datuk Dev Kumar said, who act as fronts for illegal gambling.
“We urge the state Local Government Ministry to stop issuing licences for ‘family-entertainment’ centres and revoke existing ones, Kumar said. “We applaud the move by the Padawan Municipal Council to revoke the licences of four such centres in the district.”
Kumar revealed that 81 successful raids in 16 districts had been carried out in May which had resulted in 163 arrests.
