The police in Melaka, Malaysia report that a raid on a suspected illegal online gambling ring this weekend resulted in the confiscation of 30 computers.
Following complaints from the public about a house in the Taman Bunga Raya area, a police raiding party visited the premises at 6.15 pm; it was the third time a raid had been mounted on the premises, police spokesman Datuk Chuah Ghee Lye revealed.
“The premise was raided twice in August and earlier this month for operating illegal activities,” he said, adding that police found the premises locked and had to obtain a search warrant from court when the owner could not be reached by Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council (MPHTJ).
Police are investigating the case under Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 (Amendment 2001) which provides for fine of RM10,000 per machine or jail up to five years, he said.
The municipality has asked Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and Syarikat Air Melaka Berhad (SAMB) to cut off electricity and water supply to the house to combat any further online gambling.
