Setting up an illegal and presumably unlicensed online gambling operation in Malta, one of the largest online gambling regulatory jurisdictions in the business, is either audacious or just plain silly, as an operator discovered Friday when the police Economic Crimes Unit, assisted by the Criminal Investigations Department and Rapid Intervention Unit, pounced simultaneously on six premises believed to be connected to the illegal enterprise.
Details are sketchy at present as investigations are still underway, but the Malta Star newspaper reports that a “…considerable number of computers were seized during a raid on six establishments following investigations into an illegal gambling network.”
Police also seized Euro 46,000 in cash, and interrogated eleven persons suspected of being involved.
