The Spanish sports betting operator 21Kbet.com reacted quickly this week when it was nailed for displaying a Malta Lotteries and Gaming Authority seal to which it was not entitled. After the regulator published a warning on its website about the abuse, the operator whipped the offending seal down in a jiffy.
The rather nondescript English and Spanish language sports betting site gives little information on who is behind the scenes, but claims that it has been active since 1998.
The Malta regulator outed 21Kbet in its warning, announcing: “The Lotteries and Gaming Authority (the ‘Authority’) would like to inform the public that the website www.21kbet.com has no connection whatsoever with the Authority and therefore any reference to the Authority and, or license issued by the Authority on the mentioned website is false and misleading. The Authority advises the public to play responsibly with operators licensed by jurisdictions that have sound remote gaming regulations.”
The exposure will do little for the reputation of 21Kbet, coming on the heels of reports that it is the subject of payment complaints by punters ill-advised enough to use its services.
This is not the first time that the LGA has warned off unathorised users of its logo; last year Lock Poker was in the regulator’s sights.
