Malta’s Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LGA) has entered into a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.
The MOU covers areas such as the exchange of information and applicant eligibility assessments along with compliance and regulatory assurances with respect to gaming.
Other possibilities stemming from the agreement include joint, cooperative or collaborative inspections, investigations and enforcement activities. Future developments may include employee exchange and twinning programmes and facilitating non duplication of requirements and controls and server locations.
In related news, another MOU between the LGA and FIFA’s internal agency on sport integrity was signed in the interests of protecting the integrity of football and sports betting.
The LGA will cooperate in the fight against match fixing and illicit sports betting as set out by the FIFA Early Warning System GmBH (EWS) covering the exchange of betting related information, the investigation of suspicious betting patterns or insider betting connected with sporting events and competitions.
Malta’s Minister of Finance, the Economy and Industry, Tonio Fenech, said “A collaborative agreement between the LGA and FIFA reflects the importance that the Maltese Legislation places on game fairness in all senses.”
