Marathonbet bucks the italian  gambling ban threat

It appears that online bookmaker Marathonbet has decided to buck the sweeping advertising and sponsorship gambling bans recently imposed by the new Italian coalition government, albeit in a short term shirt sponsorship agreement with Serie A football club SS Lazio.

The agreement will terminate hours short of the formal implementation of the bans in January next year.

Explaining the company’s position, Marathonbet CEO Natalia Zavodnik said she was committed to building Marathonbet’s Italian presence despite the bans, and that the Lazio deal complemented international sponsorship agreements which have already been signed with Manchester United in  the UK and Girona FC in Spain.

““Working with a club with such an illustrious history as that of Lazio emphasises our intention to continue our growth in the Italian market and beyond,” she said.
