Massachusetts AG DFS hearing results

Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey listened to different opinions on the regulation of daily fantasy sports in a public consultative hearing Tuesday.

Anti-gambling campaigner Les Bernal of the Stop Predatory Gambling action group was predictably on hand to protest at what his organisation perceives to be an expansion of gambling, whilst lawyers from DraftKings and FanDuel did their best to protect their principals’ interests by arguing against proposed restrictions on the age of players, some of the consumer and amateur sports protection provisions, and limits on monthly deposits.

The Fantasy Sports Trade Association, represented by its executive director Peter Schoenke, supported the operator arguments and offered one of his own – the removal of a proposal to prohibit the use of automatic scripting tools.

The public consultation is open until January 22, and the AG has promised to carefully consider all submissions in preparing her final draft of suggested regulations for state lawmakers to consider..
