Massive online gambling bust in South Carolina

News on 10 Oct 2013

Two South Carolina men are being held by US enforcement agencies after being arrested on charges of operating an illegal ‘sweepstakes’ style gambling enterprise and laundering over $144 million.

Fox Carolina and other media outlets in the state named Bobby Mosley and Jerome Michael Caldwell as the arrested men, and reported that the indictment also named transaction processor Gateway Systems, human resources and management software developer Frontier Software Systems and online games developer Frontier Gaming.

Federal agents seized hundreds of millions of dollars worth of real estate allegedly associated with the illegal activity, which they claimed has been operating since 2005.

Mosley and Caldwell have had to surrender their travel documents, and are being held on a $100,000 bond on charges arising from a federal investigation into a Piedmont gaming centre, which was raided by agents from the Internal Revenue Service and the Secret Service.

Fox Carolina crews said they could count about a dozen sweepstakes machines outside the business and more inside, and a neighbouring businessman said that federal agents has spent hours on the premises
