Police have arrested forty-six suspected members of the notorious Casalesi clan in Italy under suspicion of operating a major online gambling racket across multiple cities and regions within the country.
Carabinieri police, in the southern town of Casal di Principe, who believe some of the syndicate members belong to the powerful Camorra and Venosa-Schiavone factions, allege one of the ringleaders of the operation is Camorra mob boss Francesco Schiavone, who is currently serving a life sentence in an Italian prison.
According to investigators, local retailers were forced to use a particular online gambling platform between 2011 and 2015, where up to 60 percent of earnings were extorted.
