May 2016 online sports betting numbers from the Italian regulator released this week show that the Italian market continues to prosper, with wagers up over 30 percent at Euro 317.4 million.
Online punters contributed a hefty chunk to the overall Euro 562.4 million wagered by Italian punters in the month – a year-on-year rise of 15 percent.
The news agency Agimeg reports that the five months of this year so far have continued to deliver rising rewards for Italian sports betting operators, reaching a year-to-date turnover figure of Euro 2.9 billion (May 2015 – Euro 2.5 billion), with online bets comprising Euro 1.6 billion of that number.
The market leader remained the UK’s Bet365, which increased its share of the market to 37.1 percent with wagers of Euro 120 million, chased by SNAI-Cogetech on Euro 80 million (combined retail and online) and Eurobet – a Gala Coral subsidiary – on Euro 32 million.
Other online market competitors included Sisal on Euro 23.9 million and William Hill on Euro 21.3 million.
On the retail front SNAI-Cogetech led the sports betting market in May with wagers of Euro 58.4 million, with Lottomatica and Eurobet trailing respectively on Euro 41.4 million and Euro 39.5 million.
