In Missouri, Senator Scott Sifton’s SB 1131 may have stalled in the Senate Progress and Development Committee (see previous reports) but senators will now have to consider a House alternative anyway.
The Associated Press news agency reported Thursday that state House lawmakers sent a measure declaring intrastate DFS legal to the Senate on a vote of 104 vs. 38.
The bill makes provision for DFS operators to pay an annual $5,000 registration fee and comply with operational restrictions designed to exclude underage and problem gamblers, and prohibit DFS company employees from participating in competitions. The DFS sites would not, however, be subject to the state’s gambling laws.
DraftKings and the Fantasy Sports Trade Association unsurprisingly support the measure, arguing that DFS involves more skill than chance and is therefore not gambling.
