Mobile casino group Leo Vegas has announced that it has applied for an online gambling licence to operate in Spain’s six-year-old market.
Gustaf Hagman, LeoVegas’ Group CEO said in a statement this week: “We are now taking the next step on our global expansion journey and apply for our first license in a Spanish-speaking country, Spain. Spain is one of the fastest growing markets in Europe. Through our technology and experience, we expect to launch in Spain in the first quarter of 2019
“Spanish is spoken by more than 470 million people. Naturally, we see the establishment in the Spanish market as a first step to get into several Spanish-speaking countries. The Spanish casino market grew by more than 30 percent in Q3 2018 compared to 2017”.
Quoting figures from H2 Gambling Capital, LeoVegas says that the Spanish online gambling market will be worth around Euro 1 billion in 2019.
Currently only about 11 percent of all gaming in Spain is conducted online, compared with 52 percent in Sweden, where the market is expected to reach $1.4 billion next year. The online casino sector generated revenue up 30 percent year-on-year in Q3-2018 (see previous reports).
