US entertainment media reports indicate that daily fantasy sports will soon be the subject of a major movie studio production, noting that TriStar Productions has recently secured movie option rights on an upcoming book on DFS titled “The Big Game: Daily Fantasy And The High Stakes Battle For Fans, Fortune And Survival.”
The book is reportedly the definitive work on the DFS scandals and enforcement reactions that have featured in mainstream and online media for much of the last eighteen months. It is due to hit booksellers sometime in 2017.
Author Albert Chen is a staff writer for Sports Illustrated who covers baseball, the NFL and college football, and the story-line reportedly follows the scandal involving DraftKings and FanDuel, the DFS operators who quickly amassed hundreds of millions of dollars through saturation marketing before prosecutors from several states began focusing on the vertical with questions on gambling and legality.
The concept of the book apparently came from publisher Gotham’s Jeremy Bell, with Chen being recruited for the job by book agent Scott Waxman. The movie production will involve Houghton-Mifflin, Appian Way and Gotham.
