Mr Green makes provision for Austrian tax dispute

News on 7 Feb 2015

Mr Green & Co will file an appeal with administrative courts and the constitutional court in Austria regarding a tax dispute (see previous report) relating to its Maltese online casino Mr Green Ltd.  The company indicated it would also approach the European Court of Justice with a request for examination of the case.

The long running tax dispute surrounds an Austrian enforced legislation that requires online casino firms be taxed at 40 percent of their Austrian gross game win regardless of whether they are present in or hold a licence in Austria or another jurisdiction completely (see previous reports).

“We contest the tax liability and are hopeful that our objections will be given due consideration,” said Mikael Pawlo, chief executive officer of Mr Green & Co.

While Mr Green & Co contests the tax liability in its entirety, it has nevertheless made provision for a self-assessment period from January 2011 to August 2014 of SEK 108 million against its fourth quarter results.
