US eSports activity is to receive more publicity in the United States following an announcement by Checkpoint Radio that it is to run nationally syndicated coverage of the activity during a two hour weekly show.
Westwood One, a major US sports audio program with over 62 million weekly listeners, has partnered with Checkpoint Radio to launch the new eSports initiative, indicating the importance of the vertical in sports broadcasting.
Checkpoint broadcasts between Thursday afternoons and Sundays, and is produced by sports radio consultancy RSA Sports-Rick Scott and Associates with Kevin Graham Ripple content. The show features Nate Bender, Robbie Landis, Norris Howard and Joe Sloan.
A statement from Checkpoint notes that a unique podcast edition of the show will also be available.
Westwood president Suzanne Grimes said in a statement that the company’s 62 million-strong sports fan audience was also in tune with the burgeoning eSports activity, and that the partnership with Checkpoint will provide new content, depth and information about the vertical.
Checkpoint spokesman Kevin Graham said that he and his colleagues have be en working on the eSports show for almost a year with the goal of building a program that captures the energy and excitement of eSports, at the same time creating new revenue opportunities from eSports sponsors.
