The state of Nevada could be about to lead the pack with a new law permitting wagering on the outcome of US elections.
Commenting on the introduction to his committee of bill SB418 on Monday, state Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Tick Segerblom explained that the bill seeks to permit intrastate betting on future US presidential elections, and proposes pari-mutuel wagering on elections for president, U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives elections.
Segerblom recommended the new bill, commenting that Nevada needs to start thinking “outside the box,” and noting that the presidential election outcome is probably the single most wagered on non-sporting event online, where such betting has long been allowed. He observed that European bookmakers also offer such wagering.
