Nevada governor Brian Sandoval has announced that Republican state Senator Becky Harris (49) will replace outgoing Nevada Gaming Control Board chairman AG Burnett.
Our readers may recall that Burnett announced his resignation from the Board in December to return to private practice after five years in the regulatory hot seat.
Harris is well-qualified for the job; she holds a Master’s degree in gaming law and regulation, has an impeccable personal reputation, and wide state political experience. She becomes the Board’s first female chairperson.
“To be appointed to the finest regulatory system in the world is a tremendous responsibility,” Harris said in a news release. “I am grateful for the trust and confidence Gov. Sandoval has placed in me.”
The senator must vacate her seat in the state Senate to take up her new appointment, and because Burnett left a year ahead of the completion of his contract the position will have to be revisited in January 2019.
