The usually reliable British publication This Is Money reported over the weekend that succession planning against the forthcoming retirement of William Hill plc chief executive Ralph Topping has culminated in the selection of a 29-year company veteran as his replacement.
This Is Money reported that James Henderson has been earmarked for the top job, and that an announcement will be made soon.
Henderson is currently Group Director of Retail, UK and International at William Hill, and is additionally in charge of the important Australian operations of the group, which he took over following the unexpected departure of former Sportingbet exec and CEO of Aussie ops Michael Sullivan last month.
Topping has reportedly indicated a desire to retire later this year, a little earlier than the 2015 date set earlier for the end of his 40-year career with the leading international bookmaking group. The group has been reviewing possible candidates – both within and outside the company – for several months.
