The Miami Herald reports the development of an extension to New Jersey’s self-exclusion list that includes online betting in anticipation of the launch of online gambling towards the end of the month.
Participants already listed on New Jersey’s existing land casinos self-exclusion list will automatically be included on the online self-exclusion list.
New Jersey residents can additionally sign up for an online-only ban for a one-year term to a five-year term during which time they are not permitted to play.
“Expanding the division’s self-exclusion program to include Internet gaming and making the application process available to the public prior to Internet gaming’s go-live date of November 26, 2013, represents a commitment I made following the signing of the Internet gaming bill,” said David Rebuck, director of the New Jersey Gaming Enforcement Division. “The division is committed to promoting responsible gaming not only in Atlantic City’s casinos, but also on the Internet.”
Residents wanting to put themselves on the list can do so online or at various offices located across the state. They are also eligble for a free consultation with a compulsive gambling counsellor through the 800gambler.org website.
Donald Weinbaum, executive director of New Jersey’s Council on Compulsive Gambling believes the extension of the self-exclusion list to cover online is necessary to support those with gambling problems.
