The man widely credited with driving the legalisation on intrastate online gambling in New Jersey, state senator Ray Lesniak, triggered industry interest Tuesday by revealing that he has plans to expand internet gambling which will be unveiled at a press conference scheduled for Thursday 21 November.
However, Lesniak kept reporters guessing by refusing to disclose his plans in advance of the conference.
Speculation is that the senator’s plans include a provision that will allow New Jersey online gambling licensees to access foreign players where this is legal. The argument is that under federal law the state is obliged to confine its activities within state borders, but US federal jurisdiction does not necessarily extend beyond the United States itself.
