The US division of online and land gambling group William Hill plc has announced the appointment of Sharon Otterman as chief marketing officer, describing her as “an industry leader in marketing with deep experience working for prominent, best-in-class companies.”
In a press statement Monday, Joe Asher, Chief Executive Officer, William Hill U.S. said: “Sharon is a proven leader and we are thrilled that we could pull her away from one of the most high-profile jobs in sports marketing to join William Hill.”
Otterman joins William Hill U.S. from the Madison Square Garden Company, where she served as executive vice president and chief marketing officer, overseeing marketing for its diverse collection of venues, sports franchises and the Christmas Spectacular, starring the Radio City Rockettes.
From 2009 to 2015, Otterman was SVP and CMO at NBC Universal, where she developed and executed brand and marketing strategies for all MSNBC and NBC News shows, including the Today Show, Meet the Press and Nightly News.
Prior to 2009, Otterman served as vice president of marketing at ESPN and other key appointments at advertising agencies driving digital transformation.
“The popularity of sports betting has never been higher,” said Otterman. “I am thrilled to join William Hill, the international leader in this industry, to help serve an expanding, engaged customer base.”
William Hill U.S. currently operates 107 sportsbooks in Nevada, and provides consumers with a mobile sports betting app.
Following the landmark US Supreme Court ruling that legalised sports betting in May this year, William Hill opened two active sports books in the state of New Jersey at Monmouth Park Racetrack in Long Branch and Ocean Resort Casino in Atlantic City.
Otterman received a Bachelor’s degree in Corporate Communication from Ithaca College, and holds an Executive Master of Business Administration from New York University.
