The vast Turner Media group in the USA (it includes US sports channels NBA TV, Turner Sports and Nascar TV, along with the CNN, TNT and TCM networks) is targeting the younger demographic in the millennial age group with plans for a new sports digital streaming service that has yet to be detailed, but will be offered on a subscription basis.
In preparation, Turner has negotiated an exclusive $60 million content deal with UEFA for the rights to broadcast Champions League matches, beginning season 2018/19.
The Turner initiative follows news that ESPN, the sports broadcaster and publisher in the Disney empire, is investing in sports streaming service plans.
