In an announcement by its chairman, Bobby Walkup, the Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma has advised its intention – subject to legality – to enter the online gambling sector in collaboration with Florida-based technology firm Universal Entertainment Group.
Our readers may recall that Universal Entertainment Group was also involved in the abortive Pokertribes.com initiative launched unsuccessfully by the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes.
The online section of The Oklahoman newspaper reports that Walkup issued a presser just before Christmas advising that his tribe has asked for a federal court decision on its intentions, which it will respect.
Earlier the tribe had obtained an arbitrator’s view that the offshore site planned by the tribe does not breach the Oklahoma Tribal State Gambling Compact or state and federal laws.
The tribe now awaits the federal district court’s ruling on the issue. If it is positive, the tribe will resurrect the Pokertribe.com website, initially with poker on offer, but at some future point extending to online casino games.
The Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma statement assures readers that the tribe has taken the similar but abandoned Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribe experience into account, but has found nothing in it to discourage its initiative.
