New York state Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman has almost become the acknowledged point man in US enforcement agencies efforts to exercise more control over the daily fantasy sports phenomenon, but a number of lawmakers in the state legislature say they need a better understanding of the genre before making far-reaching decisions.
Later today (Tuesday) an Assembly Committee on Racing and Wagering hearing chaired by Assemblyman J.Gary Pretlow will consider testimony from experts on the legality and financial and consumer impacts of daily fantasy sports in New York, according to local media reports.
Assemblymen Jeffrey Dinowitz and Kenneth Zebrowski have said they are particularly keen to get an accurate picture of all the implications of the massively popular genre including its legality in terms of New York laws, and consumer protections.
