U.S. District Judge Michael Shipp has postponed the release of his opinion on New Jersey State Governor Chris Christie’s bid to allow legal non-State-regulated sports betting.
Shipp granted an extension to receive and review additional briefs from those for and against the proposal today (Monday).
Oral arguments are now scheduled to be heard before the court on October 31, 2014, following which Shipp will hand down his opinion on whether his 2013 order, which ended the bid to repeal the State’s law on sports betting, still stands.
Arguments will be heard against the proposal from representatives of the four major professional sports leagues, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and possibly the U.S. Department of Justice, who recently re-entered the fray.
