Norsk Rikstoto’s commercial director Carl Fredrik Stenstrøm will step down from his position after 18 years to act as general secretary of the new Norwegian industry association for online gambling founded by Gaming Innovation Group, Betsson, ComeOn and Kindred Group.
The association aims to bring the Norwegian monopoly in line with EU regulations and will actively lobby for an open licensing regime in the market.
“In recent years, I have led the work to strengthen Norsk Rikstoto’s responsibility programme. Through this process, I have become convinced that the policy must take technological development into account, and – as in Sweden and Denmark – regulate all operators under one, responsible license model, rather than trying to close over half the market out, against the customers’ will,” Stenstrøm said.
However, Stenstrøm’s new position has drawn heavy criticism from Rikstoto CEO Harald Dørum who said Stenstrøm has been “one of our foremost promoters of the exclusive rights model” for the past 18 years and now “skips the fence”.
