Norwegian online gaming estimated at five billion Kroner

News on 28 Apr 2011

Norwegian Media are speculating this week that the recent Norwegian Governments UIGEA-style ban on financial transactions with online gambling companies may have been a mistake.
The speculation is rooted in a report from the Norwegian Gaming and Foundation Authority (Lotteritilsynet) that estimates online gaming turnover in 2010 from foreign and Norwegian websites to be in the region of five billion kroner of which 50 percent was online poker.
The report goes on to estimate that 300 000 Norwegians flout the law by playing online poker with the most popular sites being Unibet, PokerStars and Betsson.
An official comment was not available when we went to press.
