Norwegian regulator blocks online gambling payment processors

Forum posts from Norwegian players report that they have received bank notifications indicating that the Norwegian regulator Lotteritilsynet has directed that banks must block payments to and from two specific payment processors, and the banks will therefore be returning payments to and from the processors to senders.

The bank notifications named Magyar S.R.O (Trustly) and Entercash, and it appears that the transaction blocking was imposed with effect from December 1 following alleged evidence of non compliance regarding transactions between unlicensed operators and Norwegian punters.

A rough translation on the reasons for the regulator’s decision reads:

“The reason for the decisions is that Norwegian banks and financial institutions are not allowed to convey deposits and cash games to and from foreign players. Most foreign gaming companies circumvent the ban by using payment solutions where transactions go through a payment service provider. The Lottery Authority has carried out supervision and found account numbers belonging to foreign companies that carry out payment services on behalf of foreign gaming companies. The ban applies to deposits, which are often made by bank card. The ban also applies to the payment of winnings, which often happens to the player’s bank account.”
