The news that December’s gigantic El Gordo lottery main prize had been won by the Spanish rural village of Sodeto has been followed by what must be the worst bad beat story of last year…one single man in the village did not buy-in for a GBP 4 ticket and has lost out on an individual pay-out of around Euro 100,000.
Costis Mitsotakis had to watch on in despair as his fellow residents in 70 households celebrated the biggest jackpot in 200 years of Spanish lottery history – a stunning GBP 600 million.
He was overlooked when local charity, the Homemakers’ Association, went door to door selling tickets around the village to raise funds.
