Online gambling bust in China

Another significant illegal online gambling ring was dismantled by Hunan Province authorities in Central China following a three-month investigation, Xinhua reports.

Nineteen people allegedly connected to the online gambling ring were detained, 200 bank accounts frozen, eleven limousines confiscated and over 100 computers seized in the wide-scale operation.

According to Xinhua, the case involves transactions totalling over 300 million yuan ($46 million) and was initiated by authorities based on a complaint from two Liudi residents who claimed they had lost money on an illegal lottery website.

The investigation uncovered three web-masters from South East China who allegedly began making profit from their gambling websites in 2014 operated through a complicated network of servers and payment systems in Malaysia, and later the Philippines.
